[§246] Rev 14:14: A First Angel Stands Ready to Reap the Righteous

Revelation 14:14: And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle.

Revelation 14:14 begins a new vision of the harvest at the end of the Second Woe.1 The white cloud represents heaven in the context of the Second Coming.2 In this vision of heaven, John saw a fourth angel from the series of seven angels identified in Revelation chapter 14.3 This fourth angel of seven is the first Harvest Angel.

This First Harvest Angel was seated or enthroned upon the cloud.4 He represents Jesus Christ5 for he is like unto the Son of Man.6 John probably borrowed this title for Christ from the visions of Daniel.7 Christ's golden crown is a garland of victory associated with his Second Coming triumph that John is about to describe.8 Christ is both a victor and a king with complete power and dominion to rule on earth.9 He will be anointed King of kings during the gathering at Adam-ondi-Ahman that will be held 3½ years before the harvest described in Revelation 14:14-20.10

This vision of the Second Woe harvest begins the great winding up scene of the Second Coming.11 The Savior has a sharp sickle in his hand12 to harvest (gather)13 the righteous first fruits of the field.14 The first fruits are those that have the seal of God in their forehead15 and are worthy of exaltation.16 They are the 144,000 Servants that will be raised up to stand with Christ on mount Zion at the end of the Second Woe, as recorded in Revelation 14:1.17 They include all saints that have been or will be resurrected to an exalted state in the morning of the first resurrection immediately before the Third Woe and the Second Coming.18 They also include all exaltation-worthy saints alive on the earth who shall be quickened and be caught up to meet Christ19 in the clouds of glory as translated or transfigured persons.20 All these first fruits of the harvest‒including the Lost Ten Tribes‒will stand with Christ in the cloud of his glory on mount Zion.21 This large number of exaltation-worthy saints will then descend with Christ as the Second Coming proceeds.22

A spiritual harvest or gathering of righteous people has been in progress since the Lord first sent laborers into the vineyard to preach the restored gospel in the latter days.23 This spiritual harvest precedes, and differs from, the physical harvest of exaltation-worthy saints at the end of the Second Woe.24 The physical harvest of saints in Revelation chapter 14 will begin when the Two Witnesses are resurrected in Old Jerusalem as the morning of the first resurrection resumes.25 After the Two Witnesses resurrect, many other saints worthy of exaltation, both living and dead,26 will be transfigured, translated or resurrected to stand with Christ on mount Zion.27 In this way, all exalted saints will be harvested and gathered as wheat into the barn (clouds) by the end of the Second Woe.28 This will be a worldwide harvest that is not limited to just the exaltation-worthy saints that dwell in New Jerusalem (Zion) in Missouri.

Once the exaltation-worthy wheat has been gathered, the wicked tares who are mortal sons of perdition29 will also be reaped and crushed like grapes before the end of the Second Woe.30 John identifies this group in Revelation 9:18 as the third part of men killed during the physical battle of Armageddon.31 Telestial-worthy people (speaking collectively and not individually), will survive Armageddon and are not part of the Second Woe harvest of sinners.32 However, all surviving telestial tares will be burned in a separate harvest33 that will occur by the brightness of Christ's coming during the Third Woe.34
