[§128] Overview of Adam-ondi-Ahman
After Adam fell, he and Eve were driven from the Garden of Eden and they lived at a place called Adam-ondi-Ahman.1 This was a choice and sacred land dedicated to the Lord.2 The name describes the valley3 or land of God where Adam dwelt.4 The compound name is associated with the keys of salvation that Adam received from God at Adam-ondi-Ahman.5 The literal name of Adam-ondi-Ahman means the Son through Adam, unto man.6
When Adam was 927 years old, he called upon his righteous posterity to gather at Adam-ondi-Ahman.7 This was about three years before his death at age 930.8 By that time, Adam's posterity had been scattered, both physically9 and spiritually.10 This early history foreshadows the scattering of Israel among all nations in later generations.11 Adam's righteous posterity answered his prophetic call to gather12 from the ends of earth,13 probably by the millions.14 This gathering became an ancient model for Zion15 as a place of gathering.16 Zion is a place,17 but also a righteous and holy people,18 and a people with the highest order of priesthood society.19
At the ancient gathering, Adam predicted what would befall his posterity to the end of the earth.20 That ancient gathering is a type and foreshadow21 for a second gathering that will occur at Adam-ondi-Ahman 3½ years before the Second Coming of Christ.22 The two gatherings have these striking similarities: (1) Both occur in the same location,23 (2) Adam is present at both,24 (3) Adam's righteous posterity is present at both,25 (4) both involve the conferral of priesthood keys,26 (5) both prepare Adam's faithful descendants to be in the Lord's presence,27 (6) the Savior is present at both,28 and (7) both gatherings are of epic importance.29
