[§127] Overview of Revelation 10

Many scholars believe that Revelation chapter 10 is an interlude,1 or interruption in the chronological flow of John's vision of the future battle of Armageddon.2 Actually, however, Revelation chapter 10 simply adds more detail to John's continuing vision of Physical Armageddon during the Second Woe.3 The details in Revelation 10:1-7 describe events at the midpoint of Armageddon, which is 3½ years after this physical battle begins.4 At the midpoint, Christ‒who is identified in Revelation 10:1 as another mighty angel‒will appear to a great gathering of saints assembled at Adam-ondi-Ahman in Missouri.5 Christ will appear at this gathering6 to take dominion of the earth as King of kings.7 The center place of Zion in Missouri will then be redeemed8 and the saints will begin to build the city of New Jerusalem in Jackson County, Missouri.9

After the gathering at Adam-ondi-Ahman, there will be no more delays in the execution of God's judgments on the wicked as declared by the mighty angel (Christ) in Revelation 10:6.10 Following Christ's declaration, the Great Tribulation will follow during the second half of Armageddon as recorded in Revelation 11:1-14.11 During these last 3½ years of great tribulation, Two Witnesses will minister in Jerusalem to preserve the city and warn the Jews to repent and have faith in Jesus Christ.12 When the Two Witnesses die at the end of the Second Woe, and before the Third Woe begins, there will be a final Abomination of Desolation in Jerusalem for 3½ days.13 This horribly destructive abomination on the Jews and Jerusalem will end suddenly when Christ makes his Second Coming appearance on the mount of Olives during the Seventh Vial Plague of the Third Woe.14

After Revelation 10:1-7 describes Adam-ondi-Ahman at the midpoint of Armageddon, the verses in Revelation 10:8-11 describe the related subject of John's little book mission. The direct connection between these two subjects is made clear in Revelation 10:2, where Christ appears at Adam-ondi-Ahman as another mighty angel with the little book open in his hand. The little book symbolizes John's mission as a translated person to labor among the Lost Ten Tribes of Israel.15 In 1831, the Prophet Joseph Smith said that John was then ministering among the Lost Ten Tribes to prepare them for their return from the land of the north.16 Thus, John's little book mission prepares the Lost Ten Tribes to attend the gathering at Adam-ondi-Ahman at the midpoint of Armageddon.17 This same little book mission also prepares the Lost Ten Tribes to stand with Christ on heavenly mount Zion at the Second Coming as recorded in Revelation 14:1, and to descend with him and be present for the marriage supper of the Lamb at New Jerusalem as recorded in Revelation 19:7-9.18 Latter-day scriptures mention John by name as one of many who will attend the gathering at Adam-ondi-Ahman, together "with all those whom my Father hath given me out of the world."
