[§192] Lucifer’s Fall on Kolob Is a Type for Adam’s Fall on Earth
When Lucifer rebelled during the grand council on Kolob,1 he fell from his high station as a son of the morning.2 Lucifer's fall on Kolob is a type for Adam's fall in the Garden of Eden.3 This means the conditions of Lucifer's fall in heaven reflect the conditions of Adam's fall on earth. A knowledge of one is instructive about the other. Some of the shared similarities, typologies, and mirrored reflections include the following:
- Before Lucifer's fall during the grand council,4 all God's spirit children were pure and innocent.5 They were placed on Kolob away from God's celestial residence,6 but they were still in God's presence7 and were immersed in celestial glory.8 Similarly, Adam and Eve were pure and innocent at the time they were placed in the garden of Eden.9 They innocently lived in God's presence until the fall of Adam.10
- For eons of time in their first estate,11 God's spirit children were taught, nurtured, and instructed by their Heavenly Parents.12 However, they were not accountable until they received God's law by way of commandment and covenant.13 This occurred at the grand council14 when God implemented gospel law among all his spirit children.15 They had their agency16 to accept or reject the gospel law.17 Similarly, Adam and Eve were instructed by God in the Garden of Eden.18 They were given laws which made them accountable.19 They had their agency to obey or disobey.20 Adam and Eve would have lived forever in the Garden if Adam had not fallen by reason of his transgression.21 This also suggests that all God's spirit children would have lived forever as premortal spirits on Kolob if Lucifer had not fallen by reason of his rebellion and had not introduced sinful conditions during the grand council in heaven.22
- Lucifer's rebellion brought an end to innocence in the first estate,23 just as Adam's transgression brought an end to innocence in the second estate.24
- Celestial conditions ended on Kolob when Lucifer's fall introduced sin into that otherwise clean environment.25 Lucifer's fall caused apostasy in heaven,26 followed by the war in heaven.27 Similarly, when Adam fell, the earth's paradisaical conditions ended.28 Satan then continued his war against God and Jesus Christ on earth29 in the telestial conditions of this fallen world.30
- The fallen conditions on Kolob fostered the necessary testing31 and development of human spirits in premortality,32 just as the fallen conditions on this earth foster the necessary testing33 and human development in mortality.34 In other words, Lucifer's fall was an opportunity for opposition that fostered growth among premortal spirits, just as Adam's fall created the opportunity for growth through opposition in mortality.
- Lucifer's rebellion during the grand council introduced sin and wickedness among God's spirit children on Kolob,35 just as Adam's fall introduced sin and wickedness among God's children on earth.36
- Lucifer's fall during the grand council created an environment of contention, anger, and hatred on Kolob where God could not dwell37 because no unclean thing can dwell in God's presence.38 Jehovah was also sinless39 and achieved godhood during the grand council,40 which meant he could not remain on Kolob in its fallen condition. Therefore, both the Father and Jehovah withdrew their persons and spiritual presence41 from Kolob to God's celestial residence in heaven after Lucifer fell.42 A veil was drawn between the two worlds.43 Spiritual death came to Lucifer immediately44 and to all God's spirit children that remained on Kolob when the Father and Jehovah withdrew.45 Similarly, God and Jesus Christ withdrew their persons and presence when Adam and Eve were cast out of the Garden of Eden after Adam fell so that Adam and Eve were shut out from their presence.46 Adam and Eve died spiritually47 as a veil was drawn to separate them from God's person and glory.48 Due to the fall of Adam all God's spirit children experience spiritual death49 as they enter mortality.50
