[§207] Rev 12:10: The Accuser of the Brethren Is Cast Down
Revelation 12:10: And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven . . . the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
In Revelation 12:10, the loud voice in heaven came from righteous spirits in heaven that kept their first estate.1 They rejoiced when Satan (the Dragon) was cast down at the end of the war in heaven.2
Throughout the war in heaven, the Dragon was known as the accuser, which means Satan.3 Anciently, an accuser was someone who formally complained against another in a legal setting.4 In scripture, an accuser is any enemy or adversary,5 including a betrayer and slanderer6 that speaks falsely against another.7 In the premortal existence, Lucifer was an accuser in every sense of the word.8 His faith-destroying accusations in the first estate9 mirror his continuing accusations on earth.10
Satan made his accusations against his brethren.11 This refers to Michael and other premortal spirits loyal to Jehovah.12 Satan made his accusations to God the Father as the only judge who could consider such premortal accusations.13 The Father allowed the accusations to be made14 so that the necessary opposition in all things would be present in the first estate.15 Since Satan was the accuser of our brethren, Michael is the advocate in favor of the brethren according to Rabbinic tradition.16
Satan made his accusations both day and night without ceasing (continuously) throughout the war in heaven17 until he and his unembodied host were cast down from heaven when the war in heaven ended.18
