[§68] Preaching the Gospel in All Nations

The four angels in Revelation 7:1 committed to mankind on earth1 the power and authority to preach the gospel2 and the corresponding duty to do so.3 During the sixth seal,4 the true gospel of Jesus Christ must be preached to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people5 in their own language according to the charge given by the Lord in Doctrine and Covenants Section 90:11.6 Where this is not legally permitted,7 the Lord's servants must send the gospel message rather than preaching in person.8

In Matthew 24:14, the Savior said, "this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come."9 With this end in view, the Lord is sending his laborers into the vineyard during the sixth seal for the last time.10 They must preach the gospel11 with a great sense of urgency because time is short.12 All the kindreds of the earth cannot be blessed unless the Lord makes bare his arm in all nations.13 The Lord's bare and outstretched arm is a symbol of his power to gather Israel14 from the four winds.15 This power of God is revealed in these latter-days through his servants.16 Their arms are the outstretched arm of the Lord.17

Preaching the gospel is an important and visible18 sign of the times19 in this eleventh hour20 of the Saturday night of time.21 Currently, there are countries and nations where the gospel cannot be openly preached, but effectual doors22 shall be opened to allow proselyting in all nations23 before the Second Coming.24 John did not foresee the opening of all effectual doors before the end of the sixth seal, however, merely the sounding of the gospel in all nations and among all kindreds, tongues, and people.25

The publication and sending forth of the Book of Mormon to all nations fulfills John's vision.26 Revelation 14:6 identifies Moroni as another angel27 flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people.28 The Book of Mormon contains the fulness of the gospel.29 It is a latter-day voice of warning that is going forth to people in all the world during the sixth seal.30

Israel spiritually gathers31 as the gospel is preached among all nations of the earth with all the blessings of latter-day Zion.32 Jeremiah describes this spiritual gathering symbolically as one of a city, and two of a family... to Zion.33 This symbolism is fulfilled as a symbolically small number of people (i.e., one) throughout the world accept the gospel in each city and then husbands and wives (i.e., two of a family) receive the temple sealing ordinance that will exalt them as citizens of Zion.34
