[§369] Rev 22:6: The Truth of John’s Prophecy Is Confirmed
Revelation 22:6: And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done.
The epilogue to the Book of Revelation begins in Revelation 22:6.1 In this first verse of the epilogue, the angel from Revelation 21:92 validates the vision3 and testifies to the truth of the entire book.4 For the third time John is told:5 These sayings are faithful and true.6 The sayings must be faithful and true because they come from Jesus Christ7 whose name and title is Faithful and True.8 The three-fold repetition of faithful and true emphasizes the importance of all sayings in the Book of Revelation.9 The repetition also confirms that the true and faithful sayings can and must be understood or they serve no useful purpose.10 Ether 4:16 assures people that the visions of John in the Book of Revelation can be understood, saying "my revelations which I have caused to be written by my servant John [shall] be unfolded in the eyes of all the people."
The angel also confirms that the Book of Revelation was revealed through the spirit of inspiration11 by the Lord God of the holy prophets.12 The Lord God is Jesus Christ,13 who sent his angel to ... his servants.14 Christ's servants are his faithful followers15 that qualify for exaltation in the celestial kingdom.16 The epilogue confirms the certainty of Christ's promise of exaltation to these faithful servants.17
The true and faithful sayings in the Book of Revelation were revealed with a sense of urgency18 because the ancient saints had to be prepared for the things which must shortly be done19 (come to pass).20 At the time of John's prophecy in 96 AD,21 he wrote letters to the seven churches in Asia that were already under attack and falling prey to the agents of Satan.22 Revelation 6:9-11 symbolically describes the deadly persecutions against the ancient saints during the fifth seal.23 Revelation 13:1-10 describes the rise of the Roman Empire as a First Beast that completely overcame the ancient saints during the Great Apostasy.24 Today, the sayings in the Book of Revelation provide an urgent and understandable message of hope to saints in the latter days25 who are also under attack and falling prey to the agents of Satan whose image is the Second Beast from Revelation 13:11-18.26
