[§37] Rev 3:21-22: Those That Overcome Will Be as God Is

Revelation 3:21: To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

John's letter to the Laodicean saints ends much like his first six letters.1 However, this final letter contains the culmination of promises2 made in all seven letters to saints that overcome.3 In this verse, overcomers are told that they will sit on Christ's throne4 and be like him.5 They will become like Christ even as he overcame6 and became like the Father.7 This includes the promise that overcomers will sit on Christ's throne8 as Christ sits on his Father's throne.9 Christ will be King of the kings that overcome and share his throne.10 This imagery depicts how exalted saints inherit all that the Father has,11 and how they become one with both the Father and the Son.12

Revelation 3:21 also expresses the ultimate doctrine that "as God now is, man may become."13 This is the Doctrine of Exaltation14 by which husbands, wives, and families15 enter God's presence16 after they overcome Satan17 and endure to the end.18 The family of overcomers literally become like God.19 They shall have eternal life20 and inherit all that God has.21

Revelation 3:22: He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Christ commands members from the seven Asian churches to heed his words,22 but the command applies with equal force to latter-day church members with the same spiritual infirmities.23 The promise of eternal life24 extends hope to the most spiritually low and lukewarm saints, including those ready to be spued out of Christ's mouth.25 People can always repent and open the door of their heart to Christ.26 In this way they can be purified and become as God is.27

After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard ... said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter. And immediately I was in the spirit.
