[§303] Rev 18:20: The Heavenly Host Will Rejoice at Babylon’s Burning
Revelation 18:20: Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.
Three groups of wicked people will mourn when Babylon falls in a single day,1 but the righteous angels in heaven2 will rejoice.3 In fact, God the Father4 commands this heavenly host5 to rejoice over Babylon's ruin.6 John saw and heard them rejoice in Revelation 19:1-4.7
The heavenly host consists of the 144,000 Servants that will stand with Christ on heavenly mount Zion at the Second Coming.8 John divides them into three representative groups9 that include holy saints,10 apostles,11 and prophets.12 The three representative groups symbolically mirror the three opposite representative groups of mourners in Modern Babylon that include the kings of the earth,13 the merchants,14 and the mariners.15 The saints in heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets represent all the victims16 of Babylon on earth.17 When Babylon falls, these victims from all ages will be vindicated.18 John saw that God hath avenged19 these victims with the same judgments that Babylon inflicted on them.20 His vision is similar to Jeremiah's vision, which predicted that the judgments of Babylon would reach heaven.21
