[§299] Rev 18:9-19: Babylon Begins to Burn and Three Groups Mourn

Many scriptures predict Modern Babylon's burning at Christ's Second Coming.1 The proud and wicked people that remain spiritually in Babylon2 will literally burn with fire.3 None can escape.4 Revelation 18:9-19 describes this final burning during the seventh and final Vial Plague of the Third Woe.5 This complete burning of Modern Babylon and her citizenry is separate and distinct from the burning that will scorch men during the fourth Vial Plague of the Third Woe.6 However, the burning of the earth during the fourth Vial Plague will occur very close in time to the final burning of Babylon during the seventh Vial Plague.7

Three groups that support and benefit from Modern Babylon will see the smoke of her burning and final destruction.8 They will mourn the loss of Babylon9 until they too are destroyed.10 The three groups of mourners include: (1) the kings of the earth in Babylon who derive their power from the Great Whore,11 (2) the merchants who will be unable to sell Babylon's worldly merchandise,12 and (3) the four classes of mariners who will be unable to traffic in Babylon's worldly goods.13 The three groups universally represent all people on both land and sea that have a wicked self-interest in Babylon's preservation.14 Many thousands of people within the three groups will mourn with a double lament15 when Babylon's industries collapse and worldwide anarchy erupts in one hour.16

The ancient cities of Tyre17 and Rome18 are prototypes of the worldly excesses and demise of Modern Babylon.19 Just as none could save these ancient cities from destruction, none can save Modern Babylon.20
