[§116] Rev 9:12: The First Woe Ends When the Wicked Are Ripened in Sin

Revelation 9:12: The first woe is past; two other woes are yet to come.

The First Woe1 will end when evil on earth reaches epic proportions,2 when wicked people are completely ripened3 in sin and iniquity,4 and when Satan's work of recruiting mortal sons of perdition to his cause has been largely accomplished. The cup of God's wrath will then be full5 as it was in the days of Noah,6 and at other times among other wicked people.7 The wickedness before the flood8 is a type and foreshadow9 for the measure of wickedness that will come to exist during the First Woe. This gross wickedness will continue on earth until the destruction of all mortal sons of perdition during the Second Woe followed by destruction of wicked telestial people during the Third Woe at the Second Coming.10

The wicked people in Noah's day11 were destroyed suddenly when the fountains of the great deep12 erupted and torrential rain began to fall.13 Similarly, there will be a set hour, and a day, and a month, and a year14 when the spiritual battle of the First Woe will end and the physical battle of Armageddon will begin suddenly as the Second Woe.15

The Second Woe will begin at a precise time and date with some event that people will be able to recognize worldwide.16 However, the physical warfare of Armageddon during the Second Woe will flow seamlessly and naturally from the spiritual warfare of the First Woe.17 John warns that the First Woe will be followed by worsening judgments during both the Second and Third Woes.18
